Travellers have voted Melbourne Airport the Best Airport in Australia and the Pacific at the Skytrax World Airport Awards for the third consecutive year.
Melbourne Airport has now won the award in five of the past six years, with previous wins in 2020 and 2021.
The prestigious awards were held in Madrid overnight and are based on the world’s largest airport customer satisfaction survey, with travellers taking part in an annual survey assessing more than 565 airports.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said Melbourne Airport's dedicated staff, focus on travellers and infrastructure investments were key factors in the win.
“We’re humbled that travellers have again voted us the best airport in our region, particularly at a time when we’re undertaking so much construction,” she said.
“The needs of travellers are always front of mind and our ‘Stepping Forward’ program empowers and encourages our staff to offer genuine assistance to passengers wherever they need it.
“Every journey starts or ends with our people and from our customer-facing staff who embody Melbourne’s renowned friendliness, to those who work behind the scenes to ensure the seamless operation of Australia’s busiest 24/7 airport, this award celebrates the efforts of the 18,000 people employed at Melbourne Airport.
“Melbourne Airport has been busy investing in major upgrades, including new retail, food and beverage outlets; security screening refurbishments and upgrading baggage systems and airfield infrastructure.
“We have some major works ahead of us with a transformation of the road network underway, a third runway to build and an expansion of our international terminal to deliver over the coming years, and we thank people for their patience.”
The World Airport Awards and World Airport Survey questionnaires are independent of any airport influence.
Travellers assessed airports on overall quality and efficiency on a raft of criteria including accessibility, operations, amenities, cleanliness, staff friendliness and helpfulness, and technology to determine how well the airport meets travellers’ needs.
