Overview
As Melbourne Airport grows, our existing aircraft parking areas are becoming busier, particularly during peak travel periods and overnight. Without additional parking capacity, there is a greater risk of congestion, delays and less efficient aircraft movements around the airport.
The Preliminary Draft Hotel Apron South Major Development Plan (MDP) outlines proposed changes to Melbourne Airport’s airfield to create more aircraft parking and support future growth.
The proposed works covered in this Major Development Plan include building a new aircraft parking area, reconstructing and renaming Taxiway Sierra, and creating additional areas for ground support equipment and aircraft bussing operations.

Accessing Hotel Apron South Major Development Plan
Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne) has prepared the draft Hotel Apron South Major Development Plan.
As approved by the Minister, the public submission period for the draft plan is 15 business days. The consultation period commenced on Wednesday 5 August 2026 and closes at 11.59pm on Friday 28 August 2026.
Copies of the draft plan are available for inspection and purchase by members of the public during normal office hours at the office of Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne), Level 2, Terminal 4 (domestic terminal), Melbourne Airport, between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
The draft plan is also available free of charge via the link above.
Members of the public are invited to give written comments on the draft plan to Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne) Pty Ltd by 11.59pm on Friday 28 August 2026.
Public Exhibition and Submissions
Public are invited to review and make submissions on the Preliminary Draft Hotel Apron South Major Development Plan. The public submission period will open on 5 August 2026 and will remain open for 15 business days, with a closure date of 28 August 2026 at 11:59pm.
