New ‘Flying Colours’ mural opens at Melbourne Airport

Mar 07, 2014

As part of Melbourne Airport’s terminal upgrades, a new large-scale mural has just been unveiled in the international arrivals hall in Terminal 2 (T2).

The artwork was created by Melbourne-based artist Shane McGrath and features a colourful assemblage of international arrival passengers walking alongside each other, throwing paper-planes and paying tribute to Melbourne’s cultural diversity.

The piece is representative of Melbourne’s multicultural identity and a celebration of multicultural roots. It provides a warm welcome to locals and visitors to the city of Melbourne.

The paper planes in the artwork feature traditional printed patterns from all over the world and serves as a metaphor for the cultural exchange that takes place each time someone travels.

This artwork was commissioned as part of Melbourne Airport’s broader transformation.
