Melbourne Airport's August passenger traffic results

Sep 20, 2013

Melbourne Airport has achieved 14 per cent international passenger growth in August compared to the same month last year.

Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said that key Asian growth markets continued to be the driver of international growth for Melbourne.

“South East Asia was the strongest performing region with Malaysia and Indonesia boosted by Merdeka Day, the culturally significant independence day celebrations,” said Mr Woodruff.

“We were also pleased to welcome the inaugural Air India flight to Melbourne during August and with it, the arrival of the first 787 Dreamliner commercial service.”

“Our continued international growth from Asia also highlights the importance of ensuring adequate capacity in bilateral air service agreements between Australia and key international markets to capitalise on the business, tourism, education and export opportunities this growth presents.

Domestic passengers grew by 4 per cent taking the monthly total to 1,967,419 passengers.
