Melbourne Airport welcomes Air India's confirmation of services

Jul 01, 2013

Melbourne Airport has welcomed Air India’s confirmation that it will become the first airline to operate a 787 Dreamliner in Melbourne when it launches daily services to Melbourne from August.

Melbourne Airport CEO, Mr Chris Woodruff said that the new service strengthens ties between Victoria and India.

“Victoria’s Indian population has more than doubled since 2006 and we are now home to the largest Indian population in Australia so we’re delighted to welcome Air India to the Melbourne Airport family.”

“India is one of our fastest growing markets and the new service will provide further opportunities for key business and tourism markets.  We’re also home to the largest population of Indian students in Australia so our growing and important education market will also be boosted by the addition of this new service,” said Mr Woodruff.

“We have a great state to promote and combined with the flexibility of our single terminal precinct and curfew free operations, Victoria is an attractive proposition for airlines. Our strong international growth over the last few years and Air India’s new services are testament to this.”
Air India will commence its daily 787 service to/from Melbourne (AI311/312), arriving in Melbourne on 30 August.
