Freeway closures city bound 20 to 22 January 2012

Jan 18, 2012

The next major phase of construction on Melbourne Airport's new APAC Drive On-ramp will start this weekend, 20 to 22 January 2012.

Works include installing concrete bridge girders and relocating the Tourism Victoria gantry to a position further down the city bound freeway.

For safety reasons, the Tullamarine Freeway city bound lanes will be closed between the airport and Mickleham Road at the following times:

  • 10.30pm on Friday 20 January - 5.30am Saturday 21 January
  • 10.30pm on Saturday 21 January - 5.30am Sunday 22 January
  • 10.30pm on Sunday 22 January - 5.30am Monday 23 January

APAC Drive On-ramp is one of Melbourne Airport's major projects that, once completed, will provide an additional entry to the Tullamarine Freeway from the airport. The new on-ramp is expected to take around 15 percent of traffic from the southern end of the airport precinct, helping to reduce traffic around the terminal.

Over the next five years, we plan to spend about $1 billion on these projects to improve infrastructure, including roads that will help ease congestion on the roads in and out of the airport.

The freeway closures are expected to cause some delays when leaving Melbourne Airport and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time.
