New entry to Long Term Car Park opens
Nov 02, 2012
A new entry to the outdoor Long Term Car Park is now open, allowing visitors travelling from the city via the Tullamarine Freeway to enter from Mercer Drive.
This new entry has been constructed on Mercer Drive to reduce congestion on Terminal Drive by diverting around 160 vehicles per hour during the morning peak period to Mercer Drive.
It also provides a new major entrance to the outdoor Long Term Car Park for airport bound visitors from the city. Visitors are also expected to notice a reduction in time from parking their car to stepping on the Long Term Car Park bus that will have them at the terminal quicker.
The new entry has been under construction since August and was opened today on time, and delivered under its expected $3 million budget.
Construction works included:
• Installation of new entrance, signage and feature wall complete with boom gates, columns, barriers, lighting, CCTV, fencing, pedestals
• Wayfinding signage from the freeway to the new entry
• Installation of power supply and communications to the new entry
• Installation of Melbourne Airport’s current Skidata car park software management system, consistent across all airport car parks.
