Christmas Traffic Tips
Dec 20, 2011
Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year at Melbourne Airport.
People visiting the airport to meet passengers or travellers using the airport should try to plan ahead, and allow extra time for increased traffic on the way to and from, and around the airport precinct.
We are expecting particularly heavy traffic around the airport on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as people arrive for Christmas, or are setting out on their trip.
If you are driving out to pick up arriving passengers, consider using our new ‘Ring & Ride’ waiting zone in the outdoor Long Term Car Park where the first 20 minutes are free. Follow the bright pink signs from the Terminal Drive or Centre Road entrances to the outdoor Long Term Car Park. You can wait within this designated area until your passengers are ready to be collected from the one minute pick up bays within the forecourt.
There are also a variety of public transport options to get to and from the airport, including SkyBus and taxis.
There will be additional Melbourne Airport staff on duty to help keep the traffic flowing around the airport including through the re-opened terminal forecourt area.
Drivers are kindly requested to follow the directions of traffic services staff who will be doing their best to minimise delays and help everybody get on their way as quickly as possible.
