Australia's first surf park to open at Melbourne Airport

Australia's first surf park, URBNSURF Melbourne, will provide a unique recreation and leisure facility for the whole community.

The key feature will be a surf lagoon that generates continuous waves in a safe, controlled environment.

URBNSURF Melbourne will be a major attraction for surfers from around the state, country and the world, along with those who want to learn.

Surfing is one of Australia's most popular pastimes. It is the second most popular aquatic sport behind swimming, with 1.5 million people classifying themselves as 'surfers'.*

In Melbourne, one in 20 people surf and each year 250,000 hours of lessons are delivered, making the participation rate the second highest of any sport in Australia, trailing only AFL.

URBNSURF Melbourne will provide community, economic and social benefits. Among these are the 300 jobs that will be created during construction and the 45 full time equivalent positions that will become available once it is open.

Other water and play activities will be available, along with a cafe and retail shops.

Melbourne Airport has leased the land to sports and leisure company, Wave Park Group, which holds the exclusive right to the wave generating technology in Australia.
