Serviced apartment hotel to meet growing demand for accommodation in airport precinct
Jul 29, 2013
Melbourne Airport will develop a 97-key serviced apartment hotel to meet the growing demand for extended stay accommodation in the airport precinct, for people engaged in airport or aviation-related business and training activities.
Quest, Australia’s leading serviced apartment provider has been secured as the tenant. The serviced apartment hotel will be developed in the airport’s business park precinct, on the corner of South Centre Road and Annandale Road, due for completion in October 2014.
Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said the project would help to meet the growing demand for serviced accommodation from companies and organisations that had operations at the airport, or were doing business with airport or aviation-related companies located at Melbourne Airport.
“Providing more accommodation choice for people who are doing business at the airport, or are undertaking aviation training in the airport precinct, will support the future growth of airport and aviation-related businesses in our local region.”
“Quest already has an established reputation in the provision of serviced accommodation across Australia, and we are delighted to welcome them to Melbourne Airport,” Mr Woodruff said.
Andrew Weisz GM – Locations, Quest Serviced Apartments, said the investment by Melbourne Airport to deliver a purpose built Quest property, was further proof that there is a strong need for quality business accommodation.
“With more than 14,000 people directly employed in airport related roles, and around 200 different businesses operating from the airport precinct, Melbourne Airport is a major centre of employment and economic activity in Melbourne’s North-West,” he said.
Melbourne Airport is currently preparing its draft master plan to guide the future development of the airport over the next two decades. This will see annual passenger numbers more than double to 64 million, with 23,000 jobs directly related to airport operations by 2033.
