Melbourne Airport welcomes Jetstar’s direct Phuket service

Sep 05, 2013

Melbourne Airport has welcomed Jetstar’s announcement for a new direct Phuket service, commencing in December 2013.

Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said the new service will provide Victorian holiday makers with more choice for their international travel over the summer school holiday period.

“Phuket is a popular tourist destination for Australian visitors and with the introduction of this service travellers can now take advantage of convenient non-stop flights from Melbourne.”

Jetstar’s direct flights from Melbourne to Phuket will operate twice a week from 14 December 2013, increasing to three flights a week in March 2014.

During the seasonal peak, Jetstar is also increasing its Melbourne to Honolulu services to four times a week from 19 December 2013 and additional frequency of Melbourne to Singapore services to six times a week from 18 December 2013.

With these combined additional services, this will increase seat capacity by almost 100,000 per annum.

“Our curfew-free, single terminal precinct provides passengers and airlines with greater convenience and makes Melbourne the ideal international gateway for Australian travellers and visitors from overseas,” Mr Woodruff said.

“We thank Jetstar for their continued support of the Victorian market and look forward to working with them as they continue to expand their services and capacity from Melbourne.”
