Melbourne Airport passengers up by 3% in February

Mar 20, 2013

Passenger numbers at Melbourne Airport increased by 3 per cent in February compared to the same month last year.

A total of 2,263,496 domestic and international passengers (excluding transit passengers) travelled through Melbourne Airport during the month.

International passengers were up by 2 per cent compared to the same period last year, to reach a total of 540,871 for the month.

“Asia was the strongest performing region, with Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, the stand out markets for February, reflecting a later Chinese New Year holiday compared to last year. It’s also worth remembering that last year was a leap year.” said Mr Woodruff.

“We were also delighted to welcome Sichuan Airlines in February as they launched their new direct flight from Chengdu to Melbourne. It was yet another significant milestone in the growing relationship between Victoria and the booming Sichuan Province.”

Domestic passengers increased by 4 per cent in February 2013 compared to last year, to reach 1,722,625 passengers.
