Dec 18, 2012
Melbourne Airport has welcomed the announcement by Singapore Airlines to add a fourth daily service between Melbourne and Singapore.
Melbourne Airport CEO, Chris Woodruff, said that the new service will provide additional seat capacity as well as additional connectivity to key markets in Asia and Europe through Singapore Airlines’ extensive global network.
“We are really pleased that Singapore Airline is adding seat capacity between Melbourne and Singapore as well as providing more choice and flexibility for Victorians through the addition of a fourth daily service.”
“We’ve experienced strong international passenger growth over the last few years. This combined with our key advantages including a single terminal precinct and curfew free operations, all play a key role in attracting new airlines and services to Melbourne.”
“The timing of this new service is a great example of the flexibility and convenience our curfew free operations provide to passengers and to airline customers. Our curfew free operations are also important to Victoria, allowing the movement of an additional two million passengers and injecting $590 million annually into the Victorian economy through visitor spending.”
“As a leading, full service international carrier, Singapore Airlines’ decision to introduce a fourth daily service is a vote of confidence in Melbourne and Victoria. And as Victoria’s aviation gateway, we are continuing to invest in our facilities to cater for future growth.”
“During the year we completed some key projects including: upgrades to aerobridges and gates; new baggage carousels; improvements to our road network; and we’re continuing work on planning our new domestic terminal and associated infrastructure. We are also planning for the future and have recently announced proposals for a third runway and a long term solution for ground transport access in the form of an elevated loop road.”
Singapore Airlines’ fourth daily Melbourne-Singapore service (SQ207/208) and will commence on 1 July, 2013.
