Positive half year passenger results at Melbourne Airport

The second quarter of the 2007/2008 financial year – which included has seen both international and domestic passenger numbers continue their strong growth.
Overall passenger numbers were up six per cent for the quarter – the equivalent of an additional 628,000 passengers through Melbourne Airport. For the half year to date, passengers have increased by five percent, or an extra 580,000 passengers.
International traffic rose by five percent for the quarter, buoyed by Cathay Pacific’s increase to three flights per day between Melbourne and Hong Kong, the introduction of Korean Air, as well as increases in seats from Air China, Air Mauritius, Freedom Air and Philippine Airlines. Transit passengers continued to decrease as direct point-to-point international services increased.
On the local front, domestic passengers increased by a solid six percent during this second quarter of 2007/2008, enhanced by the addition of both Tiger Airways and Skywest to the Melbourne Airport stable, along with Jetstar’s strong seat increases from the Melbourne Airport market.
