LOCAL SCHOOL STUDENTS CELEBRATE AT MELBOURNE AIRPORT

Dec 08, 2008

This morning students from schools near Melbourne Airport celebrated as the winners of the 2008 Melbourne Airport Schools Christmas Banner Competition were announced.

The competition is open to local primary and secondary schools who are invited to decorate banners that promote Melbourne, travel and the festive season.

“This is the 12th year of the competition and we received over 60 banners from 38 schools in the northern and western regions of Melbourne which are now on display around the airport” said Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff.

“The banners provide a fantastic welcome to over 65,000 international and domestic travelers each day during the Christmas period – with the finalists banners hanging in prime position, welcoming international visitors in our arrivals hall” he said.

Each of the three finalists wins a product and cash prize to their school donated by Melbourne Airport stores Newslink (Random House), Hightide, Krispy Kreme and Beach Culture worth a total value of $1750.

The winning entry was from Aberfeldie Primary School whose Art and LOTE departments worked together with every student from Prep to Year 6 designing multi-cultural paper dolls to represent all the different people in the world. “It is wonderful to see our students be a part of this competition, to be able to show off their art to any visitors – whether they are friends, family or anyone coming through the airport” “said Jennifer Zurzolo, Arts Teacher Aberfeldie Primary School.

Melbourne Airport’s banners are on display for the duration of December in international check-in and arrivals, T2.
