'Fear of a Brown Planet' wins Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer Award 2008

Melbourne comedians Nazeem Hussain and Aamer Rahman have taken out the Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for their hit showFear of A Brown Planet.


The pair won over judges with their highly original standup comedy about Islam, race relations, sedition and the War on Terror. Their successful Melbourne International Comedy Festival season followed a sold-out extended season at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2007. As part of their win, Melbourne Airport provides Nazeem and Aamer with flights and accommodation to attend the Brighton Comedy Festival (UK), giving them the opportunity try their hand on the global stage.

Past winners of the Melbourne Airport Emerging Talent Program including Sammy J (Winner Best Newcomer 2006) and Josh Thomas (Winner Best Newcomer 2007) were amongst the most successful at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Sammy J was also nominated for last night’s prestigious Barry Award for the festival’s most outstanding show.
