Melbourne Airport Victorian Tourism Awards: Recognising commitment and innovation
Nov 19, 2007
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff today sent his congratulations and best wishes to entrants in tonight’s 2007 Melbourne Airport Victorian Tourism Awards.
The awards, which will be held at Crown’s Palladium Ballroom tonight, are the premier accolade for tourism businesses in Victoria, recognising tourism excellence and innovation. The Victorian award winners will go on to represent the state at the Australian Tourism Awards to be held in February 2008.
Mr Woodruff congratulated all the entrants for their hard work and commitment – both for their award submissions, and their overall contribution to the thriving Victorian tourism industry.
“The Melbourne Airport Victorian Tourism Awards are about celebration and recognition of the phenomenal contribution that thousands of Victorians in the tourism and hospitality industries make to this state,” he said.
“Every entrant should be proud of their hard work – and tonight’s awards are the opportunity to celebrate and recognise their achievements.”
Melbourne Airport is celebrating its thirteenth year as a sponsor of the awards, and its sixth as the premier sponsor of this prestigious event. The airport is also the sponsor of two individual awards for Major Tourist Attractions and Visitor Information and Services.
“We have been the premier sponsor of the Awards since 2002, as we recognise the critical importance of rewarding innovation and excellence in the tourism businesses that are so intrinsically linked to the airport – the state’s tourism gateway,” said Mr Woodruff.
“13 years of commitment to the awards qualifies us as a long term partner in celebrating Victoria’s success. We take a long term view of the growth of Victorian tourism, which is why we recently rolled out plans for the largest ever expansion of Melbourne’s international terminal.”
Over the next four years, Melbourne Airport will spend $330m to expand and upgrade the international terminal. Work will commence next month, and when completed, Victoria will be unrivalled with the most efficient and most impressive international airport in the country.
