Noise

Melbourne Airport strives to ensure all measures are taken to minimise the potential impact of noise on the local community. Noise from aircraft in flight is checked by noise monitoring points placed throughout surrounding urban areas. Other sources of noise at the airport include noise from aircraft engine testing (known as ground running), construction sites, engine test cells and the operation of aircraft auxiliary power units.

Melbourne Airport also plays an important role in minimising the impact of noise on the community through its role as chair of the Noise Abatement Committee.

For other noise and planning information, including minutes from the Noise Abatement Committee, please refer to Aircraft noise in the Planning section.
