Filming and photographic requests

All filming or stills photography at Melbourne Airport must receive written approval from the designated authority at Melbourne Airport at least three weeks prior to the requested date of the shoot.

All production and filming companies (including documentary and other 'small scale' projects) must adhere to these policies along with all filming charges (from $440 per hour for landside filming requests).

Upon reading the information listed below please call +613 9297 1600 (during business hours) for photographic and filming requests.

Please note that no filming requests will be approved during December, Janaury and July, due to increased operational demands.

News crews are governed by different policies, please visit the Media parking page and refer your enquiry to +61 3 9335 3666 (24-hour media line).

Melbourne Airport is a secure environment which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The safety and security of passengers, workers, visitors and aircraft is our utmost priority.  Any request to film on site requires adequate consideration to ensure our commitment to the safe, secure and efficient operation of the airport is not impacted.

Please note that requests for filming where the desired location is inside Terminal 1, Qantas Domestic, need to be directed to Qantas Media.  Melbourne Airport manages all other locations.

Permitted Locations

Given the millions of people who pass through Melbourne Airport each month, production companies should expect for their filming to be restricted to specific locations within the airport.  These locations have been chosen to ensure the health and safety of passengers and staff, while enabling crews to effectively use Melbourne Airport as a location.

Filming requests will be considered according to:

  • the day, time, duration and size of the shoot
  • the type of filming or photography proposed
  • the potential impact on airport operations including but not limited to aircraft, passenger, luggage and vehicle movements
  • the potential impact on our airline partners, Customs & Border Protection Agencies, tenants and customers
  • the proposed purpose or use of the footage/imagery
  • any OH&S implications

All requests to film must be made by filling out the application form (available below) at least three weeks prior to the requested filming date.
